Tugs down owen island THE NORTH Shore Men’s Fastball League kept up the heavy- hitting this week, with Tugs downing Bowen Island 3-2 in a close game. Tags received a strong four bit pitching performance by Larry Gouthro and got the offensive from Dar Brinham who went three for three at the plate, including 2 home run. Pemberton Station looked good for a win against Jack Lonsdele Canadians as it went 4-1 into the last inning. But Canadians Andy Baker had two hits, with Ken Manns picking up the win to make it 5-4 for the Canadians, Queens Cross split their two gemes by defeating Tugs 4-3. Dean Laravie threw five hit balis en route to victory and Stud Mcleod provided the offensive with two key hits. However, Queens Cross lest a close 3-2 decision to the Challengers despite Terry Grimms’ second homer of the year. Bowen Island and Lynawoed Yics slugged it out, with Bowen Island coming out on top for 2 16-9 victory. The game featured a combined 18 hits but Bowen’s Greg Barnet only hit in one home. Extra Old Stock shut out the previously undefeated Lynnwood Inn 2-0. Sports camps kick off DAN MISCISCO’S All-Star Basketball and Volleyball Camps kick off at a number of Vancouver tocations beginning in July. Miscisco, who ended 3 professional baseball career with the St. Louis Cardinais over 20 years ago, turned his attention to teaching and coaching. Since 1969, over 20,000 have benefited from the expertise of Miscisco’s qualified staff. They have included the likes of Cathy and Ken Shields, Stan Stewardson and Bruce Enns in basketball, and Wayne Desjardins and Mike Rockwell, both B.C. ‘“‘AAA”’ bigh school champions in volleyball. Research run ready to go THERE ARE only four days left before the starting gun goes off for the fourth annual Lions Gate Run ‘‘4’' Research. But organizer Jeannette Savard says there is always room for more participants to help raise funds for the Lions Gate Research Foundation. This Sunday at 8:30 a.m., runners will begin the first of a two loop course on the 10-kilometre ran. The run, sponsored by the North Shore News and other Businesses, will leave and finish at the North Shore Winter Club at 1325 Keith Road, North Vancouver. For thoze who prefer a slawer pace, there is a 5-kilometre walk. Also available is a 45 minute aerobic workout or au hour-long swim. The everts are taking place simultaneously so entrants can only register in one event. Awarts will be given to firsi, second and third place finishes in esch category of the ran. Runners can compete individually or as a team with a minimum of four and a maximum of 10 members. : The City of North Vancouver’s team, Street Feat, is sending out a challenge to other teams to see who will raise the most pledges. This year the team whick brings ir the most pledges will win Sony Walkmans for its team members. The individual with the top pledges will receive Nike runners and a Nike rain suit.
