Soccer Blues off to national championships

THE CAPILANO College Blues
men’s soccer squad is on its way to
Nanaimo today for the national
championship» after topping the
league finals last week.

Playing rival BCIT, the
Capilano Blues scored in the first

half on a free kick from Easmon
Ward to Mario Montagliani for
the local team’s 1-0 win.

With BCIT players an average
of five years older than their Blues
counterpart, the local team
managed to hold off the
challengers for the win.

**} thought we did very, very
well to come out on top,”’ said
Capilano coach Joe lacobellis.
“(And) [ think we should be in the
(national) finals.”’

In the Kamloops league finals,
the Blues played host Cariboo Col-
lege in the semi-finais, winning 1-0

for the right to advance to the
finals against BCIT.

Cap player Rod Schenoni was
league MVP as well as being nam-
ed to the first all-star team; toining
him as all-stars are Raymond Pang
and Jason Charles.

On as second alJ-stars are Cap’s

Randy Celebrini, Rob Reed and
Mike Peshko.

In women’s soccer action,
Capilano Blues players Laura
Pupp, Sandi Burleigh and Jady
Johnson were named to the
league’s first all-star team.
