The choir gave its first concert at the’ Orpheum fifty years ago and it is hoped that many of the over 2,000 former Bach Choir singers will be in the audience. Music Director Simon Streatfeild will conduct Bach’s choral masterpiece which he has chosen as a fitting tribute to the choir's namesake and the an- niversary. The St. Matthew ‘Passion has been described as “by general consent, technically, emotionally and devotionally the greatest work of its kind ever writ- ten”, and the performance should not be missed by any Bach and, indeed, choral enthusiast in the lower mainland. . Bruce Pullan, Associate Conductor of the Bach Choir and widely admired tenor soloist, will sing the dramatic role of the Evangelist. Christus will be sung by William Reimer, bass, a native of B.C. now resident in Europe where his suc- cessful operatic and oratorio carcer has led him. Other soloists are Erica Northcott, Marjorie Biggar, Ben Heppner and Ray Nurse. The St. Matthew Passion is scored for double chorus and orchestra and the concert will bring together a formidable array of musical resources. The Bach Choir _of 150 voices will be joined by 43 musicians from the Harlow’s | Restaurant We are open again on Sundays for dinner from 6 - 10 p.m. SPECIAL ST.
