First off, their game at Kinsmen Stadium against West Van Rovers had to be shifted because of the still unplayable conditions of the erass field originally chewed up prior to November 25. Then when-the game was finally played at the gravel field between Kinsmen and Carson Graham, a hot band of Rovers held off the powerful second division club to end up ina 1-1 draw. Following the game the young Pegasus team found themselves in an unpleasant battle with members of North Shore Saints who didn't want to share the shower facilities at nearby Mahon Park. ‘Soccer | back i in action According to David Wild, the coach of Pegasus, the game ‘was a good one’ but the rest including the field mix- ‘up and shower sharing was ‘petty and stupid’. In “the game, Rovers jumped out in front at the 20-minute mark on a goal by Peter Saunders off a John Nanson shot. Pegasus wasted little time in tieing up the nfatch eight minutes later on a goal by Rob Foote. The Pegasus premier team in the Pacific Northwest league went down to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of UBC in their first game of the post Christmas season. In 2A action, West Van Trollers lost 3-0 to Nomads while NorVan came up with a strong 4-0 win over White Eagles. West Van Royals held on to first place in 4A with a 6-0 win over Marpole. Adrian Cole scored four goals for Royals with Ian Mon- tgomery and Dave Fraser picking up singles. Intermediates ° Ihe North Shore termediate Soccer League swung into action for the first (me this vear with four games over the weekend. West Van CK's downed West Van Bears 3-1 while Edgemont Hycaps blanked West Van Rowdies 3-0. In other league action Edgemont United came up with a 3-2 win over West Van Cougars while Noo 5 Orange and West Van Lions fought to a 2-2 draw. In- Rockets come from behind In Sunday's Metro League action at West Van Arena, persistence and hard work finally paid off for the West Van Rockets as théy scored five unanswered goals to overtake the North Van Mountaineers for a 5-3 win. But the Mountaineers’ goaltender Chris Korak was almost the story of the game. For just about two full periods the Rockets poured the rubber at Kozak but were unable to put one by him as they outshot the Mountaineers 144 in the first period and 25-5 in the second. . After a_ scoreless first period the Mountaineers connected with a power play goal by Brad Sharp from Ross Wheatley and D. Gilbert at the 4:56 mark. Midway through the period John McCown rapped home a Doug Jones rebound to stretch their lead to 2-0, and then four minutes later Jones and Ron Campbell com- bined to put the visitors out in front 3-0. And at that point, with Kozak’s super- hot performance, the North Van team appeared to be on their way to a decisive win. But with only = 1:06 remaining in the period the dam broke as the Rockets came up with two quick goals in a ten-second span.
