BO ) The new main branch, an award-winning building, was. erected in. 1974. Rapid membership growth has necessitated expansion by more than twice the present: size. The new addition features reflecting pools, members’ lounge, administration offices, an elevator, and parking for 56 vehicles. The Lynn Valley branch was opened in 1973. In December, 1976, the third branch on Marine Drive was added. It was established in 1941, but only in the past five years has membership increased so rapidly. People seem more interested than ever in managing money wisely and in getting good ! service at their place of saving and borrowing. NorCu Realty Ltd., a division of the ‘credit union, was established in 1975. As salar- ied. representatives -NorCu staff are available to. advise -members, without high-pres- sure sales tactics. They can provide evaluations, along . with a variety of insurance ‘policies to suit individual needs. The various types of insurance offered include: life insurance, fire insurance, homeowner’s and _ tenant’s coverage, and travel insurance The credit union concept is centred on ‘people working together for their mutual benefit. Members are invited to attend the annual meeting, where they elect from amongst themselves a board of directors to oversee the affairs of the credit union. A minimum of $5 on deposit provides access to all of the North Shore Credit Union’s many services: a choice of savings accounts paying: high interest on the daily, monthly or quarterly balance (including one featuring free life insurance); free chequing; redeemable term deposits (only $100 required for some); consumer loans; flexible mortgages; fire insurance and life insurance. For most of the services, including RRSP and RHOSP, there are no fees or service charges. All three branches are - open Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and weekdays (except Monday) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Two of the branches remain open later on Friday evenings. During the first two months of 1977, credit union managers have given. presentations each week = in highschool Consumer ‘ Math classes, or to church and investment groups. Bowling, skating and baseball all receive credit union sup- port. During the past year, 16 local teams were sponsored. . 1 North Shore cultural activities are also encouraged through credit union assistance. Ten music, drama. or children’s events were sponsored last season. A donation was also made to the new cultural centre in North Vancouver, Presentation House.
