The weil-attended event was sponsored by the commitice to efect Mayor Sager and or- chestrated by his campaign chair- man, tall Eric Termansen. The mayor and his pretty wife _ Cathy welcomed more than 385 guests who dined on tasty zrilled B.C. salmon. Lots of notables were there besides Mayor Sager’s likable parents, Shirley and Hank Super — movers and shakers fike Socreds Jack Weisgerber and Ray and Grace McCarthy and close supporters Joanne and Joe Hous- - sian, Klaus Priebe, former West Van mayor Derrick Humphreys, Arlene McFarlane and Gail Nelson, former Ambleside Inn-ers Martha and Willie Brueckel, Lydia Klassen, the head of psychiatry at Lions Gate Hospital . Br. Paul Termansen, newlyweds + Pilar and Daniel Izzard, Evelyn and Don DeCotiis, and the list ., goes on and on. Former West: Van alderman John Humphreys was the master of ceremonies, while Brian MacLean introduced the guest of honor. A very special surprise guest - was also in the crowd. Several of us were down there slaving over a hot stove for the Great Taste of B.C. Salmon Barbecue fundraiser. We were using our culinary tal- ents to raise money for the worthy Canuck Place, the only free-stan- ding hospice for children in all of North America. The salmon barbecue was held in a tent and fared (if you'll par- don the pun) very weil. There were 750 six-ounce sal- mon portions. For $5 you had a filet of salmon, a salad of B.C. greens, and for dessert, B.C. blueberries.
