Even though many of the big names find their way to Canada in concerts or it isn’t quite the same as seeing Burton on Broadway or Olivier plays, in London. The theatres are different — most visitors are surprised at how small they are — and this accounts for the problem you may encounter in getting seats. It isn’t the shows that Wave been running for years that will be booked up but if this year’s smash hit, you are wise you want tickets for to book ahead. You can order tickets from them and have them billed to your Visa account. Itis cheaper to write direct- ly to the theatre where the play is appearing, also in- cluding your Visa number. If there’s time they will mail the tickets to you and if not, they will hold them at the box office. If you arrive in London without tickets your hotel will either handle the order for you or direct you to the Nearest ticket office. Of course, if the play is sold out you're out of luck. If you want to take your chances on missing the play entirely in the interests of saving money, visit the Leicesier Square Ticket Booth. They sell tickets for half price on the day of the performance. The Booth opens at 12 noon for matinees and is open from 2:30-6:30 for evening shows. This is personal shopping on- ly — they don’t take phone calls or answer letters. Also, there is no address — just look for it— in Square. If New York is your destination, you can find out what’s playing by writing: Travel USA, #84, The Sta- tion, 601 West Cordova St., Vancouver, B.C. V6B !1G1. They advise telephoning New York for tickets. If you call before 8 a.m. You'll save Leicester 60 per cent on the toll charge. The number is TICKETRON: (212) 947-5850. I’ve only been to New York once but had no trouble getting tickets to every play | wanted to see — we saw eight plays in six days which must Rex Harrison and Claudette Colbert. I’ve heard that the play itself isn’t much but the performers are marvellous. Since both of them are elder- ly (Harrison is 76, Colbert 81) they may be considering retiring before long so order- ing tickets in adyance might travel-wise be something of a record. In perhaps 15 visits to London I’ve only missed one show | desperately wanted to see — Cats — m June of last year. That one was not only sold out but there was a three month waiting list for tickets.
