COMING BACK to school after spring break had its reward
for Evelyn Choe of Carson Graham.

That's when the Grade 9 student
found out she had placed second in
the nationwide Pascal math contest
an exam that had been written by
about 33,000 other Grade 9 studersts
in Canada.

Although Evelyn said she was sur-
prised by the news. she admitted “|
knew | had done really well. | knew
1 got everything right. except for the
last couple | wasn’t sure about.”

As it turned out, Evelyn made on-
ly one mistake in the hour-long ex-
am, resulting in a score of 142.5 out
of (50.

She credits her math teacher. Ms.
Baker. for telephoning her and en-
couraging her to write the test.

Not surprisingly, math is tvetyn’s
favorite subject and she plans to
become an accountant after high
school
