The provincial gov- ernment has cut its $20,000 grant altogether while the city will be contributing only $15,000 rather Ghan its usual $20,600. By EVELYN JACOB News Reporter The market is one of a growing number of businesses which believe that supporting the local arts makes good business sense. “Ever since we opened,’’ said Lonsdale Quay’s Janet King, ‘‘We have always tried to entertain our customers. (Entertainment) has become part of the market. Our customers expect it in the sum- mertime.”’ This summer, for the second year in a row, the Quay is hosting its free Sunday concert series with an exciting lineup of all-local per- forming artists. The current pro- gram has been expanded from last year’s, said King, thanks to the help from sponsor the North Shore Credit Union. Ten concerts in ali, featuring the sounds of jazz, rock, big band, salsa and folk, will be of- fered on Sundays at 2 p.m. through the summer. Some of the series highlights include the Jazz- manian Devils, western swing band The Dots, the 40-member Total Experience Gospel Choir and folk group Under the Moss. Judy Dennis, chairperson for the North Shore Arts Commis- sion, praised the Quay for its support of the arts. ‘“The Quay has always been a really good corporate citizen for the arts,’’ she said. “The arts are special and they realize that.
