Pets make
good gifts

PETS MAKE wonderful gifts, but
they should not be given at Xmas.

New pets need time, attention
and care to settle into a new home
and to adjust to the surroundings
and people.

Xmas, with its frantic pace, is
not the best time to introduce 2
new pet.

Pets should not be given as a
surprise. The decision to adopt a
pet is a personal one. If you have a
friend or family member who you
think would like a furry compa-
nion, ask them if this is so. If it is,
give them a certificate that says
“Good For One Dog” or “One
Cat’’.

Better yet, give them a photo of
the pet and let the person know
that the animal may be picked up
after the holiday.

Before you buy a pet as a
Christmas gift, remember that
every day thousands of animals are
abandoned. Take the time to con-
sider if a pet is the ideal Xmas gift.
