School. finished among the top 18
debaters in their respective junior
and senior divisions at the Feb. 6
Regional West Debating Tourna-
ment at St. George's School,

Students Rouzbeh Pirouz, Phil
Howard, Chris Monahan and
Brent Bagshaw were among the
senior winners, and Jessica Gibbs,
Kyly Killam, Jennifer Ryan, Ar-
davan Taherzadeh and Cathy Rigg
were among the junior winners to
advance to the provincial Ham-
marskjold Tournament at
Kamloops March ti to 13.

Ardavan Taherzadeh, a Grade
10 student, won the medal for the
top junior debater, He and Jessica
Gibbs teamed up to win the first
place trophy in the junior division.

Jennifer Ryan won the medal
for the top Grade 9 debater at the
tournament.

Approximately 130 competitors
from the Lower Mainland west
region participated in the tourna-
ment.

Some of the participating
schools included St. George's,
York House, Crofton House, St.
Thomas Aquinas, Collingwood,
West Vancouver and Sir Winston
Churchill.

One hundred and sixty students
from across British Columbia will
be participating in the provincial
debates in Kamloops. The top
three senior debaters will qualisy
for the national championships.

Another top Hillside public
speaker and debater, Chris
Brayshaw, was one of two students
from British Columbia to compete
in the Canadian Public Speaking
Championships in Winnipeg Jan.
