Mill deserves Dear Editor: As a longtime reader of the North Shore News and a lifetime resident of the North Shore, fam amazed at the credence and column inches you give Mr. Terry Jacks, self-appointed environmentalist, for his attacks on the pollution produced by the Port Mellon pulp mill of Canadian Forest Products. He sets his sights on the pollution produced by the Canfor mill at Port Mellon. Does he have any facts to back up his statements? Any air photos, dates, con- centrations, durations, wind directions, barometric readings, analysis, assessment of property or physical damage to himself or his neighbors, or any other direct proof that his problem if it exists, is indeed the Weekly Store Special META 1 KG. SLUG BAIT reg. $3.99 2 for $599 y commenaation result of Port Mellon’s operation? None is forthcom- ing. f have known West Howe Sound intimately for the last 60 years during all of which time Port Mellon has been running as the mainstay of a fragile economy. The company has worked, in good economy and bad, to improve the operation of the mill as it is running, much more difficult and costly than to build a new mill with all pollution controls installed as the mill is built. The improvement of air and sea water over the years is steady and noticeable, they deserve commen- dation for their efforts, not a kick. James R. Thomson West Vancouver Baskets Geranium, Tr.
