Sager teahouse

council has

granted a development permit for the conversion of
the Sager furniture store at 2423 Marine Drive, toa
teahouse restaurant following a public meeting held

Monday.

The decision was reached
after aldermen heard the
views of a handful of local
residents who spoke in favor
of the teahouse but expressed
concern over the _ limited
parking available.

According to Director of
Development Steve Nicholls,
the Sagers have agreed to
create nine new parking
spaces by demolishing an ex-
isting concrete wall.

improve the conditions

chants’’ adding that they
‘‘anticipate a lot of walk-in
traffic from the seawall.’’

and recognized the merit of
having a viable operation
there.

In addition to the
restaurant, the Sagers plan to
continue the sale of furniture
from the current location but
on a much smaller sacle.

Plans for the 100-seat
teahouse represent the third
proposal by the Sager family.
Two earlier submissions for
194 and 140 seats respective-
ly, were both rejected by
council.

In a letter to the West Van
Municipal Clerk, J.D. Allan,
MLA John Reynolds provid-
ed ‘‘100 per cent’’ support to
the restaurant plan adding
that the project ‘‘will create
needed jobs and is a superb
location for a good
restaurant.’’
