In North Vancouver there was chaos in the Riverside Drive residential area near Seymour river as a result of youths gathering at Pool 88, a favorite swimming hole which is consistently a pro- blem because it has no public access or parking. West Vancouver police last weekend responded to about 40 disturbance calls as a result of loud music and noisy parties. Several :liquor seizures were made in the Ambleside Park area and in. almost all cases there were charges laid either of con-. suming liquor in a_ public place or of juveniles being in possession of liquor. A police officer on patrol is reported to have seen a group of youths gathered near the Ambleside Park tur- naround at about 2 a.m. Sun- day. The group fled as the officer approached, leaving a youth lying on the ground, with cuts to his face and body. As a result, suspects were later arrested in connection with an assault and robbery incident near the same spot the previous weekend. West Vancouver Mayor Derrick Humphreys spoke of his concern about problems associated with the heat- wave, when he addressed Monday's policy and plann- ing Commiltee mecting. He urged homcowners and parents to take charge of summer gatherings at West Van homes to prevent the kind of damage and distur- bances which have become regular occurrences in the municipality through gate- crashers swelling parties to Always BUCKLE UPI. The mayor gave notice that local police would deal with disturbances in parks or beaches and he urged the courts to deal severely with troublemakers. Traffic proved to be the major problem at the North Vancouver trouble spot of last weekend,-on Riverside Drive. Sunday saw 31. cars ticketed in the area of Pool 88, with four of them being towed away. The problem is that not only is Pool 88 inaccessible to people other than residents, meaning outsiders have to trespass to reach it, but there are no parking facilities in the area. An RCMP spokesman says the result is that people who go to use the pool end up across locals’ Entry Form Skipper'’s name Adaress Phone (res ) vessel type Sail numbers or ogo RIg Age youngest crew member Age of vessel Pre-Race Skippers Mesting wo in court for W. The RCMP spokesman told the News: “Then we had residents upset because their visitors’ cars were.towed and ticketed. It’s getting to be a problem.” His advice is for non” residents to stay away from the area and for residents to arrange for parking of their visitors, even if it means the residents having to leave their own vehicles on the roadway. “We can’t decide which are visitors and which are people using the pools,” he says “We can’t start knock- ing on doors to see if the cars belong to the visitors.” In previous years, he says, “the parking has been such a problem that residents ‘have Deadline Wednesday June 15, 5:00 pm (bus ) vessel name Hull color Length on deck Boaters Village Mall or dolivar entry form and 325 fee to: Brian Morse NS Satling Scnool 1601 Granvitie Street vancouver V6Z 284 o Bod Graham North Snore News 1159 Lonsdale Ave Nortn vancouver V7M 24 Trts family event is open Co all crutsing salboats, regardiess of club mermnbersnip or affillation No spin-spinnakers or Oloopers please Tne Annual Nortn Shore News Salling Race is sponsorea Dy Sea Wing Salling and the North Snore Sailing School Age oldest crew member Friday June 17,7 00pm sea Wing Sailing Club Baan Marse 669 08a0 Bob Granhann 980-08 14 A9 - Wednesday, June 1, 1983 - North Shore News series not even been able to drive liquor seizures with cars weekend visitors to the to their own homes. visiting Mount Seymour, the mountain were well- behaved.
