if . North Sh needs he launches Dear Editor: Re: Jolanda Waskito’s March 8 article “Hearing set for NVC waterfront site.” Has anyone seen any boaters on the North Shore? Has any- one done a tally of the number of public boat launch sites on the North Shore fately? More particularly, where can you tind one in North Vancouver City? Cates Park on the east, then nothing und you reach Ambleside in West Vancouver — is it not time for North Vancouver City to take action to remedy this situation? The Fullerton site offers the last likely opportunity for such a development. Just such a proposal was made to council recently by Norm Green of the Lions Gare Anglers Club and Don Davis on behalf of the North Shore Rod and Gun group, yet Ms. Waskito was silent on the matter. Granted, the councillors were nor enthused by the sugges- tion, but chat does not invalidate it. How can the public pulse be measured, if nothing is published. The boating community needs such a faciliry. The Fullerton Fill site is adjacent to the Burrard Yacht Club marina, thereby offering the greatest com- patibiliry on what is generally an induscrially-oriented water- front. It is a shame that the North Shore News has not picked up on the opportunity thar now preseats itself, namely to pursuc an issue that would be of benefit to a great many of the North Shore’s citizens. Monday March 16 is almost now, boaters this is your wake- up call, go to North Van City Hall at 6 p.m. and be heard. Even if the acproval process opinion is swayed, this is only “the srart. Ie would still have to be fit into the eventual plan into which the property owner, Greystone Properties Ltd., must buy. She speaks volumes with her wit, her sarcasm and her slight- ly nwisted insights. Her style of communicating is down-home and earthy. Many of us literate types are so caught up in making sure that everything we say is politically, grammatically and socially appropriate that we never really manage to say what we mean. And rhen there are weird languages like legalese and com- puter jargon, just in case we weren't confused enough. Recently, [met Shannon and she talks the way she writes. Of course, in person, vou can tell when she’s stretching 2 story for comical impact. This doesn’t always come across in print, especially when the reader has his/her sense of humor function turned off, as most of us do, untortunately, when we read the newspaper. 4 Did [see one of the North Shore News readers compare Shannon Humphreys to Doug Collins or did T imagine that? Now thats a stretch! Mr. Collins thrived on promoting hatred and mean-spiritedness. Shannon is encouraging us to jaugh at ourselves, to see the lighter side af things. She is stepping back and looking at lite’s litle mysteries and complexities. She is also bringing te the foram issues that concern “some of us.” For instanee, { agree that dog poop is much less damaging to our environment without a plastic wrapper — but that’s another topic for another fetter. (Sce North Shore News, Feb. 20) Anyway, all this to say that 1 hope that Shannon's column continues to be a regular pari of the North Shore News.
