Some of the most common drinking water contami- nants that can easily be tested for include: : _ Coliferm bacteria — The pres- ence of these, bacteria. indicate unfiltered or poorty filtered surface water has found its’way into ground water or the well.” Lead in the water supply — Long-term ingestion of high levels of lead can result in serious health effects, even coma or death. In infants with this condition, the blood’s ability to carry oxygei to body tissues is reduced and the skin takes on a bluish hue similar to that causéd by suffocation. Pesticides --- For rural residents especially, pesticides such as atrazine may also present potential health risks.
