Rains top up reservoir RECENT HEAVY rains have filled the North Shore's two main fresh water reservoirs to capacity and helped increase chinook salmon returns to the Capilano fish hatchery. Greater Vancouver Regional District water administrator Tom Heath said Friday both reservoirs had been fully replenished by heavy November rainfall. Limited rainfall in the early fall had left water levels in the Capilano reservoir 30 feet below capacity by late October. The accompanying low water levels in the Capilano River helped cut chinook salmon returns to the river’s hatchery to a half dozen fish. But hatchery personnel reported that, as of Friday, 158 adult chinook had made their way to the hatchery. By Friday, 120 mm of rain had fallen in November in the Van- couver area, inchiding 19.6 mm in the preceding 24-hour period.
