B.C. native plants promoted

B.C.’S_ NURSERY industry will
benefit from a project to identify
and propagate the province’s
native plants for commercial pro-
duction.

The project will receive $99,616
under the federal-provincial
agriculture agreement.

Joint 50-50 funding for the pro-
ject was announced recently by
federal Agriculture Minister Don
Mazankowski and B.C. Minister
of Agriculture and Fisheries John
Savage. The funds are provided
under ARDSA, the Agri-Food
Regional Development Subsidiary
Agreement.

The B.C. Nursery Trades
Association and the University of
British Columbia (UBC) will be
providing $36,000 toward the
$135,000 total project cost.

The project will be carried out
by the UBC Botanical Gardens.
