TEN-YEAR-old Andrea Widing of
North Vancouver was named Litde

Miss Capilano Mall recently after-

beating out 453 other young hope-
fuls. far the titic.

“T was surprised | won,"’ said
Widing, a Grade 5 student at
Westview Elementary. ‘‘S: was in
shock — J thought J wouldn't
win.”

Widing found the ‘contest an-
nouncement in the News and sign-
ed up for a chance to win the Little
Miss Capilano Mall title.

From the total 454 entries
received, 30 went.on to perform in
the contest’s Dance Routine Night
in front of selected judges and mall
customers.

After the dance night, the judges
selected 15 finalists to compete in
two fashion shows and a cake cut-
ting coinciding with the mall's se-
cond birthday.:

Joining Widing in winning the
contest were four-year-old Serene
Aandahl as the first princess and
74-year-old Cassandra Kit as the
second princess.

“She's a. great kid,’’ said
Widing's proud mother, Rosemary
Schwarz.

As Litle Miss Capilano Mall,
Widing — who hopes to be a
model or a lawyer — won a
modelling course, an encyclopedia
set, dinner passes, a trophy and
gift certificates from mail mer-

chants and the chance to be in

other fashion shows.
