AFTER A one-year absence, big band music returns
to West Vancouver.

The West Vancouver Recreation Complex will come
alive with swing music as an 18-piece orchestra kicks
off the dancing with popular songs from yesteryear.

‘We have had this before and it’s been popular in
the past,’’ organizer Robyn McGuinness said of the
event to raise funds for the recreation department.

The $800, McGuinness is hoping to raise,will be used
to help fund the seniors’ centre and the recreation

centre. ‘‘it goes to offset the cost of projects.”

McGuinness said the event is a perfect opportunity
for novice dancers to try out their skills. ‘‘Younger
people are learning swing dances. The swing era is .
quite popular — they might find it fun to practice
what they’ve learned.”

Admission is $18 per couple and includes appetizers
and chances to win one of the evening’s many door
prizes. Tickets are being sold in advance only.
