Underhill North Vancouver Pro life hit with Dear Editor: f am writing in reference to the brief celumn in your paper on June 27, page 6, entitled Pro Life error. This column was obviously published in light of the recent elections of the North and West Vancouver Hospital Society (NWVHS) board, and presented a view most likely held by many fencs sitters. I can relate to the view that our society should be better educated in the area of sexual morality; this is much needed in our day and age. However, your comment stating that the Pro Lifers have a “holier-than-thou”’ attitude is, as they say, a ‘low-blow’ against those who care deeply for the sanctity of human life. It was also stated in the column that ‘‘unborn fetuses will continue to be killed’. Are you not then admitting to the idea that abortion is murder? If a person must be sentenced to life in prison, or as ia the United States, death, for killing his fellow man (note that reference to the mate sex is a general reference to the human race), then why should we pity the women, even girls, of today by letting them kill their un- born children? The column is Pro Life in that it does not condone abortion. Yet it opposes its life-saving strategies. The stand that the newspaper has taken on this important issue is a very noble one and yet we can also sense the ever-present fence- sitting atmosphere. [In such an issue, I see no grey. Either you allow the killing to con- tinue or you must stop it. There is no in-between when it comes to killing — you don’t make excep- tions depending on the cir- cumstances, especially premeditated murder. Maybe it would be a good idea for the media to help out in the educational area to which I previously referred rather than ex- pressing a negative attitude to the public about a group of people try- ing to give the children of the next generation another chance. Atoume of signing, the price seemed really good, but since then land values have cisen by as much as 20 per cent in some areas. Our mistake was in signing an option that did not inghide an escalation clause. We should also have sought legal advice, as we now find there is nothing in’ this digreement to protect Our interests. Warst of ail, it is going ta be unposstble to get out of. The pur- chaser can insist we sell next month, at the price agreed upon last year. C.
