PAPAL PORTRAIT

NORTH Vancouver artist Glen Green was honored when
he was asked to do the official Pope John Paul H portrait
for postcard distribution during the Papal visit. Capturing
both sides of the spiritual leader, Green actually did John
Paul the honor, by portraying his two sides, on the one
hand, the kind, gentle humble man, Karol Wojtyla, and
the other hand, the powerful Catholic leader with his
religious presence. Green, 28, painted the watercolor por-
trait in his studio in his garage, shown left. Green was
picked to do the portrait after Ben McDonald, director of
the Vancouver Papal Visit, recognized the detailed work
Green had put into a drawing of a friend.
