Gaining independence

The North Shore Family
Services Society recently
held its first annual general
meeting as a separate and
independent United Way
Agency. Formerly a branch
of Family Services of
Greater Vancouver, the
Society offers a range of
supportive services to people
on the North Shore.

These include individual
and family counselling,
volunteers, support groups
and parenting and personal
courses. The Society also
operates a Family
Assessment Centre and child
care program on behalf of
the Ministry of Human
Resources, and two other
programs for the Depart-
ment of the Attorney
General.

Outgoing Board = chair-
man, Marilyn Ross, reported
on a year that has seen some
exciting new beginnings, and
welcomed her successor,
Beth McAdam. North Shore
Family Services Director,
Betty Jane Norris, told the
meeting that the agency
served about 2,400 families
annually through its offices
in North and West Van-
couver and in local churches
and schools.
