FOR Thais Baker, there is one rule to the practice
of feng shui.

The North Vancouver consultant has worked for about a
year with feng shui, which tor her is an eclectic blend of ancient
wisdom and new-age mysticism.

In her practice, she also uses tech-
niques borrowed from her backgrounds
in merchandising, numerology and alter-
native health. [there has been a divorce
and the house has bad memories, she
goes around the rooms shaking a rattle
to break up the negative energy. She
might burn a small fire in a container
with salt and juniper to continue “cleans-
ing.”

“It makes the air sparkly and tingly,
she said. “People say they can feel their
skin tingling.”

Some may have trouble understand-
ing how aratde breaks up the “negative
energy” of a family break-up. But she
points out how feng shui has taken off in
the U.S. and in England.

“People try it, and it works,” she
insists. “They don’t have to know why.”
