Why ain I here? What is the meaning or purpose of my life? Is there any real security? Does God have a place in my life? As we ponder these things in our hearts, is there a window which can bring some new light and a refreshing breeze? We are all familiar with the computer program Windows 95, a current best seller with well overseven million copies sold. Ic has captured the software market and will be a popular gift this Christmas. We may not fully understand Windows 95 but we have heard how we cannot live without it. We must replace our “old windows” — our old way of viewing things, so we can more efficiently seek solutions to modern-day secular problems. But, in the midst of rapid advancement in technology, we also have “windows for the soul”. We havea history of sacred writings, stories and guidelines for living. We search for meaning in life and seek a sense of the Holy by refocusing on the windows us, Christmas! of our past. We hear again the good news of the unique message of Christmas — the celebration of Christ’s birth. The spiritual side of life calls us to slow down; to pause and meditate; to pray and connect with God in order to solve our concerns; and we can be captivated by its window of simplicity and serenity. We are all on a journey; a journey called life. We may not all have the same belief systems; we may not always peer through the same window; but our quest is similar — to search for significance in life, and to convey a message of love, hope, peace and good- will to all. Let us use this holiday season to reflect upon the sacred and the secular, and to decipher whatis truly important in caring for ourselves and one another. May we be blessed, this Christmas season, with greater understanding of a sense of the Holy in our everyday life so that a special window to our soul will get us on-line with God. Al Pope, Chaplain
