INVENTION

“A NORTH Vancouver man has
won oan award for a new en
vironment-related invention

Randolph Phillips was one of
two winners ont of 96 competitors
who had entered the 1991 En-
vironmental Invention contest. He
was awarded for his Rotter Rotter
invention, a composter designed
as a plywood drum.

Instead of forking a compost,
people can get the same result by
simply rohing the drum.

The Roller Rotter will be on
dispiay at the Pacific National
Exhibiftien in August. Production
is planned in several sizes.

Phillips reesived his award
earlier this month during a

workshop for inventors and en-
trepreneurs held at the BoC. In-
stitute of Technology.

BANK PROFIT

THE HONGKONG Bank of
Canada CHKBC) has reported a
consolidated net income of $11.3
million for the three raonths end-
ing April 79, 1991, an increase of
14% over the $9.9 million re-
corded for the same time period in
1990,

For the six-month period ending
April 36, 1991, consolidated net
income for the bank wus £7 5.8
million, compared to the $20 mil-
lion recorded durirg the same
time period fast year.

In addition, consolidated assets
were 310.9 billion at the end of
April this year, compared to the
$6.7 billion recorded last year.
The 1950 jigtres do not represent
the acquisition of Lloyds Bank of
Canada.
