A classic from the '50s is now a
driving force for clean air in the
"90s.

The British Columbia Lung
Assoviaition <BCLA) has restored
a 1956 Ford Thunderbird and
converted it to cleaner-burning
natural gas. The result’ is the
Clean Air Classic, a car that is the
subject of a province-wide tottery
and a clean air public awareness
effort. :

The lottery, which runs until
Labor Day weekend, will help
fund medical research into lung
disease. In addition, the project
sends the vital message that
everyone can preserve air quality
by reducing harmful emissions.

No one escapes the effects,
especially the one in five peopie
who already suffer froin some
jung condition,’’ says BCLA vol-
unteer president Dr. Bernie
Riedel.

Riedel adds, “The Clean Air
Classic car lottery is a landmark
project for the association. It is a
showcase of cleaner ways to drive,
as well as a fundraiser to fight
lung disease.”*

Lottery tickets are $10 each,
and can be ordered by phoning
BCLA at 731-4961.

The Clean Air Classic is co-
sponsored by BC GAS Inc., A&W
Food Services, the B.C.
Automobile Association,
Hongkong Bank of Canada,
Overwaitea/Save-On-Foods and
Richmond Savings Credit Union.

A voluntary health agency with
some 130,000 regular supporters,
BCLA funds medical research and
conducts public and professional
education programs. Ht relies
almost entirely on contributions
from individual British Colum-
bians for its support.
