Nurses, facilities settle contract A CONTRACT settlement has been reached for nurses at private and non-profit longterm care facilities on the North Shore and elsewhere in B.C. after lengthy negotiating sessions this past weekend. Negotiators for the B.C. Nurses Union and the profit and non-profit groups of facilities agreed that mediator Vince Ready should issue binding recommendations to settle the two contracts. -Althovgh the BCNU would not release amounts of the wage increases, communications officer Aaron Bushkowsky said that, under the terms of the two-year contract, the longterm care nurses gain wage parity with B.C. hospital nurses, with a wage increase retroactive to April, 1990 and another in:resse this year in April. Approximately 900 longterm care surses have been without a contract since March 31, 1990.
