WOMEN IN THE FORCES A MOOT POINT Surrender on gender issues, Doug Dear Editor: Doug Collins has made a stand (March 19) to protect from the feminist hordes the last bastion of real men: the military. I think that he should tender his surrender gracefully on this and other sexual matters and end his long-standing enmity with the opposite sex which clearly has him outnumbered. Albert Einstein, an unabashed pacifist, once responded to a per- sonal attack by American “‘patri- otic women” this way: ‘In my opinion, the patriotic women ought to be sent to the front in the next war instead of the men. It would at least be a novelty in this dreary sphere of infinite confu- sion. And besides, why should not such heroic feelings on. the part of the fair sex find a imore pictur- esque outlet than in attacks on a Combat comments anger Dear Editor: I have never been so outraged as I was upon reading Mr. Collins’ remarks on women in combat. The fact that women do not murder, rape, rob banks, or, for that matter, write prehistoric commentaries, is not because of a lack of physical or psychological strength. It is, in fact, because of strong psychological restraint and morals against such primitive acts as fighting, stealing and boxing.
