Tory incumbent Mary Collins, Libera! candidate John Pozer and NDP candidate Olga Kempo were each asked 13 questions ranging from strengthening the UN to the implications of private ownership of the world’s agricultural gene pools. Poll results showed both Pozer and Kempo were in favor of a stronger role for the United Na- tions in international affairs to promote such things as peace and sustainable economic development, which is based on a philosophy of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Collins was unsure. All three favored supporting Canadian efforts to solve the Third World debt crisis and said Canada should provide leadership in developing and strengthening treaties to protect such common global environmental entities as the atmosphere, the ozone layer. They also favored sustainable development and supported adding the federal Minister of Environ- ment to the federal cabinet’s Priorities and Planning Commit- tee. Each was also in favor of sup- porting initiatives by Canada to press all nuclear powers to adopt a policy of no first-use of nuclear weapons. Only Kempo said she would ad- vocate public review of en- vironmental assessrnents of foreign aid projects. The other two were undecided. Kempo was also in favor of leg- WV alderman identified A CAPTION for a page 10 photograph of West Vancouver Council members at the opening ceremonies for the municipality’s - seawalk, published in the Nov. Both Kempo and Collins favored policies that would pro- hibit sales of Canadian military goods to countries guilty of gross human rights violations and would require public disclosure of all Ca- nadian military exports. Pozer was undecided. Collins said she would not sup- port renegotiation or cancellation of the Free Trade Agreement with United States if environmental, development and peace concerns were shown under public review to be valid. The other two supported renegotiaton or cancellation. Kempo and Pozer also said they would support an immediate na- tional public inquiry into the im- plications of private ownership of genetic agricultural resources. Col- lins did not support the inquiry. The EPP is supported by various churches and environmental pro- tection organizations. Some of the group’s questions were based on information from the Brundtland Report, a 1987 UN world commis- sion on environment and development. © Full ‘meeting facil : ° Audio/visual available ° Business Suites. | for good government | in West Vancouver on Saturday November 19th West Vancouver Citizens for Good Government PO Aw 9011 Wey Vinwouser AC VINOANS About the Association The West Varnourer Crizens tor Gort Government was turmed in 19x6 by a group of concetned citiveny anuous 10 see the continuation of pout government in West Vancouser Not aligned with any pobtical Pans, its mandate 1s to serk out, selec. and actively support the most highs qualified ndidates tut public atfice in West er We thank thine eitvens who have mame members and invite your enquiries Please call 92> (243 for further information.
