Ansari wins

SOFIA ANSARI of the Evergreen Squash Club in
North Vancouver won the girls’ under-14 Junior
Squash Championship at Jericho Tennis Club Feb. 26
to 28.

Jason Detvicarie and Nicole Radziminski — both of
Evergreen Squash Club — won the under-12 boys’
and girls’ title.

About 105 juniors from British Columbia took part

Earlier, Ansari ranked number one in under-14 and
under-16 play when she won the girls under-16 Van-
couver Island Junior Championship held in Nanaimo
and the Evergreen Junior Tournament in North Van-
couver.

Selected as one of 16 juniors to attend a training
camp March 28 to 30 in Victoria, Ansari will vie to be
on the national team to compete at the nationals May

in the annual tournament.

Otters place
20 swimmers

THE WEST Vancouver Otters
Swim Club placed 20 swimmers in
the Tiny Olympic Prospect List
produced by Swim Canada Maga-
zine recently.

The TOP program, as. it is
known, requires that swimmers
aged eight to 10 years swim two
prescribed events.

Eight-year-olds swim the 100-_

metre individual medley and the
400-metre freestyle; nine-year-olds
swim the 200-metre individual
medley and the 400-metre
freestyle; and {0-year-olds swim
the 400-metre individual medley
and the 1,500-metre freestyle..

Zoe MacMillan was the highest
ranked Otter with an eighth place
ranking in the 100-metre individual
medley.

Justin Wong placed [0th in the
400-metre freestyle, while Mac-
Millan also placed 10th in that
event. .

Placing 1ith were Anna Maran-
di in the 200-metre individual
medley and Peter Marshall in the
400-metre freestyle. a

Also making it into the TOP list
were Anita Danzig, Sarah Cullen,
Adrian Amgwerd, .Sieven Mar-
shall, Colby Bell and Jake Russell.
