WHEN IS A sale item not a
good buy? When the pro-
duct is lousy at regular price
it doesn’t improve ap-
preciably when it goes on
‘sale. .

Take this cup of coffee i’m try-
ing to drink as an example. It was
prepared from a_ brand-new
package of a fairly common brand
that I purchased ‘ton sale’ a cou-
ple of weeks ago. Both of my regu-
lar brands, Nabob and MJB, were
selling at regular price so ‘Mrs.
Economy”? bought four boxes of
this junk.

1 suppose I could return the.
unused boxes but I'm not going to
do that. Since I’m the major coffee
drinker in our family I'm going to
use every last grain of my bargain.
Maybe it will serve to remind me
that economy is only as good as
the product. It’s always a good
idea to experiment with new
brands but that doesn’t mean buy-
ing a case lot! .
