After all, running up a mountain is not easy. But for all that, the third | _ apnual Seymour Hill Run Sunday attracted 270 runners who attempted to deal with a 12.2 kilometre (8.25 ‘miles) race from the bottom of Mount Seymour - to'the parking lot at the top. The elavation gain is 907 metres. The- race started at 8:30 a.m. and Kelly Brown, Steve Brindle and Ron Wichmann quickly . established them- selves as the leaders. After the nine kilometre mark, Brown became the clear leader and he was only challenged from a distance by occasional surges from Brindle. | Brown was the first across the line with a time of 56 - minutes “40 seconds, 20 seconds slower than last year’s winning time. : Len Helms, who won the race last year and the year before, attended the event but did not participate. As organizer Dave Wong put it, Helms was “physically and mentally taking a break” after running the Vancouver International Marathon last month... The first North Shore runner to finish was.Gordon Ferguson who placed fifth with a time of one hour 42 seconds. Although it was the sort of run in which little.relief can be found at any. time, the runners were ‘thankful for the support crew from the North Shore. Search and Rescue Team Society which - provided an aid station at the half way point; and radio and medical support teams. Proceeds from the.run were donated to the society. North Shore runners were dominant in all categories of the race. Jim Bishop was first in the masters. men (40-49) division, Daniel McDonald was second in the junior men, Ingrid Otto was ‘the first junior woman, and Bonnie Gordon was the second placed masters woman.
