Members of the Nor- * Westers track and field club will be taking a couple of weeks off from active competition before gearing up for the cross country season in September. The North Shore club wound up their season recently with a number of meets and _ outstanding performances. Along with the Burnaby Striders, the NorWesters hosted the B.C. Junior Development meet with 700 ‘top athletes from across the province taking part in more than 2,800 events. Leslie Beckerman with firsts in the 13 year old 800 metres and 1500 was the big winner, with Richard Kaberry in the 800 for 11 ‘year olds and Graeme Bowbrick in the 13 year old 3000 metres also finding the .@ Stopping FROM PAGE B1 who both have Level 4 coaching. “This will allow all boys to progress to his own desired level.” While there was a lot of good single person coaching in earlier years at the recreation centre, Jordan says cohesion between the A and B teams was lacking. He hopes that the close knit coaching system will overcome this. Jordan's work in coor- dinating the midget hockey players will be helped by the fact that he will be running gold. Twleve year old Lisa Parish brought home three silvers with seconds in the 800, 1500 and 400, while nine year old Sigrid Otto took a second in the 800 metres. A pair of 11 year olds, Richard Pennington and Sarah Butterworth took thirds in the high jump and 100 metres respectively while the girls 11 year olds captured bronze in the 4x100 relay. Andrew Dawson, a 15 year old picked up a new B.C. record in the 400 metres with a time of 49.7 seconds at the B.C. Championships for Juvenile, Seniors and Masters. In addition, the young speedster took silver in the 800 and 200. Dawson was chosen to represent the B.C. ‘drift’ the Midget and Junior Development camp at the Hollyburn hockey = school Starting August 18. “Any Midget or Junior aged boys wishing to get a jump on the season can sign up for the Hollyburn Hockey school,” Jordan says.
