STUMPED FOR exciting enter-
tainment? If you're ‘ooking for
an experience which is out of the
ordinary and supports the arts
look no further than the Van-
couvet Opera's fundraiser Night
cf a thousand and one dinners.
Featuring 24 weird and wonderful
venues to nibble, feast and act out
a variety of fantasies, this year’s
many offerings include three
North Shore venues.

On May 10, you can attend the
Picnic Olympics where in an ‘‘in-
door park"’ complete with
Astroturf, tents, patio tables and
mega-barbecutes you can [est your
mettle at the egg toss, potato sack
races or three-legged races.
Recommended wear is ‘tant proof
vests,’’ say the organizers. There
are 30 tickets available for $50
each.

On May 11, in West Vancouver
in a ‘‘Venetian cafe water setting’’
is ‘‘Death in Venice or | had that
sinking feeling last time I saw
her.*’ Billed as a murder mystery

dinner party its hosts are Susan
Drury and Dennis Perry, who
plan to deck themselves out in
Venice mardi-gras duds. Each
guesi gets a role in the mystery
and at $75 per ticket the 16 of
them will be snapped up.

Also on the agenda for May 11
is “Things that go bump in the
night," a ghost story-telling even-
ing at the Chateau Whistler
Resort. While executive chef Ber-
nard Casavant whips up the even-
ing’s culinary pleasures, host gen-
eral manager David Roberts and
his “ghoulish zang’’ will seare you
silly with goose-bump raising
ghost stories. After the stories you
retire (o a luxurious premier room
of the chateau. Tickets are $150
each; 14 are available

There are over 20 more interest-
ing culinary adventures to choose
from in tocations spanning
Greater Vancouver. Ticket sales
for this event close Thursday,
