The Speciat Olympics Summer Games, a national event held every four years, are designed to encourage and assist mentally handicapped people ta enjoy athletic competition and achieve their fullest personal athletic and social potential. Police support on the North Shore will take the form of of- ficers pounding the pavement dur- ing a July 11 torch run. Various police agencies will carry the Special Olympics torch from Calgary, the site of the 1986 games, to Vancouver. North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Glen Magark will be on the team of police officers that will escort the torch from Calgary. The torch will be handed over to a North Vancouver team of runners at about noon. Sgt. Stu Mcleod, Cst. Melanie Cloghesy and Cst. Daryn Storey, along with deputy sheriffs Cam Shott, Sheila Nevin and justice of the peace Caro] Warren will escort the torch through North Van- couver.
