The NSWC’s application has already passed third reading and if adopted, will see plans for eight brand new sheets of curling ice and a new skating facility put into place as early as March, said NSWC manager Bernie Asbell. If all goes according to plan, the new development is expected to open in September. The NSWC curling rink has been home to some of the pro- vince’s best — Linda Moore, Lindsay Sparkes and Debbie Jones. WESTERN CHAMPIONSHIPS Local divers victorious COURTNEY BALDWIN won the Girls 1! and Under one-metre spr- ingboard and placed third at the recent Canadian Western diving championships in Saskatoon. Baldwin's strong performance has qualified her for the 1989 Age Group Nationals in New- foundland. In Boys 16 to I8 years, Lome Salt placed sixth on both one and three-metre. Salt also competed in the Men’s Open, placing ninth on three-metre and 10th on ose-metre. He was up against stiff competition, several age group champions and 1986 Olympic diver Larry Flewwelling. At the recent B.C. Winter Pro- vincials in Vancouver, the North Vancouver Diving Club was off to a@ great start. Baldwin won both one and three-metre springboard competi- tions and BiRi Burrows placed fourth on one-metre. Boys 11 and Under’s Colin Duncan placed second on one- metre springboard. Boys 11 to 12 years’ Sean Coll- ings won both one and three-metre and C.J. Kerr placed fourth on one-metre springboard. Salt was second on both one and three-metre. He also competed in the Men’s Open, placing third on one and three-metre springboard. All the divers reside on the North Shore. The club is into a busy season with competitions in Edmonton, Alberta Winter Provincials and Western Pre-Qualifications, Saskatoon during January, Saskatchewan Spring Provincials in April, Alberta Spring Provin- cials and Pan Am Invitationals in May. The North Vancouver Diving Club will also host a Springboard invitational in the spring.
