Lions have. tough decisions

After two long

weeks of training | camp in

Courtenay, B.C. and the season opening victory in
Regina on Sunday afternoon, the B.C. Lions have

‘finally returned home.

While still: savouring ‘their
dramatic 20-12 victory over
the Roughriders, Head
Coach Vic Rapp and his staff
now have to get down to the
task of preparing for their
first league home game
Saturday night, July 4,
against the Montreal
Alouettes.

Rapp was pleased with the
progress at training camp
and said he generally felt the
team had advanced more
than in past years, But Rapp
said there are still areas such
as pass rushing, which the
team has to improve on.

With 55 players on the
roster at the moment,. the

‘defensive

already fierce competition
for spots on the final roster
of 34 players and the 4 man
reserve list is expected to
become even more intense.

Several ‘areas, including
the defensive line and the
secondary, the
corps of receivers and
quarterbacks all feature
plenty of job competition.

Rapp singled out the
inside secondary position as
one for which the com-
petition will be particularly
stiff.

Returning veterans like
quarterback Joe Paopao,
receiver Richy Ellis,
linebacker Glen Jackson and

defensive lineman Rick
Goltz and Nick Hebeler all
had strong games on Sunday
in Regina, and their ex-
perience will be the keys to a
stronger Lions team. this
