Toronto airport
faces shutdown

TORONTO (UPC) -
Toronto International
Airport could be shut
down in a few days if
demands by air traffic
controllers are not met,
the chairman of the
Canadian Aijir_ Traffic
Controllers Association
says.

Wayne Barry Thursday
said there could be “an
immediate, impulsive,
withdrawal of service” by
Toronto air traffic
controllers due to a threat
of disciplinary action
against 36. controllers
who walked off the job
earlier this month.

Barry warned that the
illegal work stoppage
would bring the entire

system at Toronto's
airport to a “a_ virtual
halt.”

The union's board of
directors held an
emergency meeting

Thursday night in an
attemt to convince the
Toronto controllers to
Stay on the job.

About 20 flights in and
out of Toronto’ were
cancelled and _ several
delayed at the airport
September when 36
controllers attended two
study sessions.
