BET cena S eos ees TE Pana B4 -Wednesday, September 24, 1980 - North Shore News Caps face big Bruins By MIKE HOCEVAR Hockey season is just underway but already there is a big game about to take place, as the Nor Wes Caps face off against New Westminster Bruins Friday night at the North Van- couver Recreation Centre. Phis is a match which should provide the fans with some lasting thrills as the two clubs are affiliated and a lot of personal pride is at stake. The Caps. are members of the B.C. Junior Hockey league and are the top farm club of the Bruins. Coach Vern Moberg stresses that constant headmanning the puck and discipline are the key factors in gaining victories and the Caps will have to stick to that philosophy against their Duane Potekal. The centre scored 54 goals while going over the 100 point mark. In preparing for the contest, the Caps played twice last week. On Sunday night they authored a devastating 16-1 win over the Chilliwack Colts. Colts weren't very prepared as they only started their training camp a few days earlier and had many prospects out of town and substituted with one 14 year old, three 15 year olds and four 16 year olds. Grant Harris, Pat Barnes and Brian Richardson each fired two goals and Richardson added five assists, to lead the attack. The scoring eruption was a far cry from the night before at the North Shore Winter Club, where the Junior B Bloom's hat trick. The Flames were hungrier for the result and kept pressure on right from the opening whistle and earned full marks for the win. The Caps hope to con- clude a working agreement with the Flames this week in which the NSWC crew would become a reserve team for the Caps. The agreement will probably allow the Caps to assign as many as three non-NSWC players on to the roster. Tonight the Caps host the Coquitlam Comets at 8 p.m. to see if they can put their pre-season record against league competition at three Straight wins.
