appeared at Oakridge last
weck to autograph her latest
book. My Secrets at the Book
Company in Oakridge Centre
on Feb, 18. Weill, here's anoth-
er hot scoop in the land of
authors! The sizzling gossip is
that the one, the only, the hot-
to-trot star of the Roseanne

“television scrics, Roseanne
Barr, is also rumored to be
heading our way. If current
plans are confirmed, Roseanne
would be here for an autograph
session for her new tell-all
book, My Lives, near the end
of March. I'll tell you more
when it’s all confirmed...

The organizers of the 3rd annual
Night of Hearts Ball were cxtreme-
ly pleased with the turn-out of some
266 black-tie guests last Friday
evening in the Harbourview Room
of the Vancouver Trade &
Convention Centre. I don't think
I’ve ever seen so many red, heart-
shaped balloons! This was the 3rd
annual gala do and fundraising
evening for Ronald McDonald
House, a truly worthy charity.

Lots of gorgeous gowns on the
ladies — particularly the glam.

short sheer dress worn by the tall
and willowy President of the Board
of Directors of Ronald McDonald
House. Eleanor Joy. Shirley
Barnett, wife of the Elephant and
Castle's Peter Barnett, looked very
chic in a slim black pantsuit. accen-
tuated with a unique all-peart tie.

Bob Stewart and his tall blonde
wife and hard-working Ronald
McDonald House committee mem-
ber. Barbara Stewart, niake such a
handsome couple. They were hav-
ing a great time! McDonald's
Restaurant boss for Western
Canada, Big Mac Ron Marcoux,
was also enjoying the festivities.
Unfortunately his wife had the fu
or he was solo-ing it.

Also on hand was special events
coordinator, Martin Van Kekan,
who had orchestrated the fun party
for the VTCC in the very same
room just the night before! Great to
see auctioneer extraordinare, Barry
Scott and his wife, Drinda, enjoy-
ing the affair as well. Mark Byrnes
emceed while the band, Wager.
played for dancing, the very best
exercise in the world. At this

moment, organizers feel that they
raised more than $25,000 for
Ronald MeDonakl House...

The famous Foo Dogs are once
again at the doorway of the Delta
Place Hotel doing their particular
chore of guarding the hotel guests

Armstrong had the solid black
marble and beautifully-carved Poo
Dogs brought out in inte for the
traditional event for Chinese New
Year's Eve — the painting of the
Eyes of the Foe Dog. So there was
Mare, painthrush in hand with at
small tin of bright red enamel
touching up the ferocious-looking
canines and placing big red velvet
bows around the accks of the ani-
mals,

And if you look very closely,
youll see just under the Mama Foo
dog’s paw a tiny baby Foo dog...

Once again one of the nicest
social events of the season was the
Vancouver Symphony's annual
Lovers’ Ball at the Hotel
Vancouver. The ball marked the
VSO's 75th anniversary and they
went all-out to make sure that it was
quite a splendiforous affair, CBC-
TV national weather prognosticator,
lovable Phil Reimer was emcce
and, naturatly, it was oversold, In
fact, it was so packed in the hotel
ballroom, that they could only have
skinny waiters working! The fabu-
lous waltz music. the spectacularly-
decorated venue and the gowns
were simply outstanding! And
besides the symphonic music. a sur-
prise for the guests was the appear-
ance of the Stone-Age Rock King,
Maestro Dal Richards and his big
band who played for the dancing
crowd. This event was a first for
Dal and as soon as he gave the
downbeat for “In The Mood” the
dance floor was swamped! Nezhat
Khosrowshahi, who chaired the
event along with committee mem-
bers like Starr Dalton, Hiroko
Ainsworth, Maxine Gelfant,
Darlene Spevakow and Pam
Richardson, should feel very satis-
fied with the resulls.

Pant Richardson had wanted
skaters to perform the pas de denx
trom Swan Lake since the setting
was the Russian fee Palice. But
unfortunately it wasiv't possible to
lay down the necessary plastic ice.
But she still managed to pull it off.
Instead she hired two roller-bladers
to perform the pas de dew and they
did very well, much to everyone's
delight ... Cheers!
