Once again one of the nicest social events of the season was the Vancouver Symphony's annual Lovers’ Ball at the Hotel Vancouver. The ball marked the VSO's 75th anniversary and they went all-out to make sure that it was quite a splendiforous affair, CBC- TV national weather prognosticator, lovable Phil Reimer was emcce and, naturatly, it was oversold, In fact, it was so packed in the hotel ballroom, that they could only have skinny waiters working! The fabu- lous waltz music. the spectacularly- decorated venue and the gowns were simply outstanding! And besides the symphonic music. a sur- prise for the guests was the appear- ance of the Stone-Age Rock King, Maestro Dal Richards and his big band who played for the dancing crowd. This event was a first for Dal and as soon as he gave the downbeat for “In The Mood” the dance floor was swamped! Nezhat Khosrowshahi, who chaired the event along with committee mem- bers like Starr Dalton, Hiroko Ainsworth, Maxine Gelfant, Darlene Spevakow and Pam Richardson, should feel very satis- fied with the resulls. Pant Richardson had wanted skaters to perform the pas de denx trom Swan Lake since the setting was the Russian fee Palice. But unfortunately it wasiv't possible to lay down the necessary plastic ice. But she still managed to pull it off. Instead she hired two roller-bladers to perform the pas de dew and they did very well, much to everyone's delight ... Cheers!
