The orchestra’ 5 Salute to jetty honoured Austria’s national day, you didn’t have :: to be born by the banks of the Danube to appreciate the nuances. In concert, conductor Clyde Mitchell proves himself a quick-witted and engaging presence. He fleshed out most of the pieces played with - enlightening introductory ancedotes. The session opened with Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture follow ed by the peer- less composer's Divertimenta far Strings K. 136. The selections showed off the orchestra's nimble touch. Next up: some delightful explorations of the genius of Schubert — Rosamunde Overture, Rosamunde Baller Music and Marcle Militaire. The opening half of the program concluded with a rousing offering from compos- er Franz von Suppé (Francesco Ezechiele ‘Exmengildo Cavaliere Suppé Demelli). Von Suppé, who _ ‘lived 1819 to 1895, is credited _ with originating the Viennese . operetta with the premier of his one act operetta Das " Pensionatin 1860.
