When Terrance Stanley Fox first dipped his artificial leg in the chilly Adantic Ocean off the coast of Sr. Johns, Newfoundland on Apnt 12, 1980, little did he know what a magnificent effect he would have on Canadians and on the advances in can- cer research to be made in his memory. After running an average of 26 miles (43 kilometers) a day, through six provinces on his cross-Canada run, his heroic fight to beat cancer and find a cure came to a halt Sept. 1; 1980, just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The cancer had spread to his lungs. It claimed his life, not his dreams. Last Sunday, millions: around the word participated in the 17th annual Terry Fox Run.
