The way myself and others choose to dress affects our lives drastically. But the seemingly unrelevant ae comments of fellow students, and even com- plete strangers, can really affect the self-confi- dence of an individual. As Jennifer Ramey, age 17, puts it: “Just because I dress a little more colorful than every- one else, I don’t think that I should be the target of other people’s fascist hate remarks!” Luke Terret, age 17, had a different point of view: “You guys are scrubs. You look like you pick your clothes out of a garbage can and wear things like dog collars.” Robyn Gray, age 16, also thinks that-people are too judgmental. “1 mean it’s not the way you dress, it’s the way you act,” he says. As Claudine Ostashek, age 17, sees it: “Society wants people to be conserva- tive.” -__ And as Melissa Robson, age 16, sees it: “I _think some people prejudge because they have ‘= low or no self-esteem.” The way some police officers, teachers and even friends’ parents judge people by their style -of dress is not something that anyone should have to deal with. ~ Photo Emily Megan and Sarah Delany ’ Thave noticed, many atime, how much more CARSON GRAHAM students (left to right) Emily Megan, Jennifer respect and just plain human kindness Iseemto Ramey and Dominika Peliwo show their true colors. get when I dress more “‘appro- ; 0, sriately” for the public's eves, ceanemmee—". eres a Up to 20 % off storewide all year When I meet my friends’ par- wr. ; £ metchendise only ents or go to job interviews, I a mato ngs way! | GRAND OPENING | look.
