President of the North Vancouver B.C. _ Winter Games because he is looking for accolades or applause. He took on the challenge because its one of the few things he hadn't done yet. “It wasn’t something | sought .” because | wanted to some way get my “name in lights in the community,” says Brewer, “t thought of the oppor- tunity as a.way of doing something very different. It's well- respected certainly, in the intemation- al scene.” The team remains a focal point in his life and he continues to participate in rescues, undaunted by the physical and emotional demands. “It keeps me young. When you're on the team don’t care about how old you are, or the color of your hair. Can you keep up? Can you do the job? If you can’t, get out.” . 's an example of his determination that not even the memory of past injuries will keep him from participat- ing in rescues. In one incident, during a rescue on Mt. Rabson, Brewer reset his own broken leg with the help of a doctor. “He gave me enough pills to chew down that | could get through it, and then he said “Get walking, because * there's nothing we can do for you here.” Somewhere between the time he spends with the rescue team and that serving as Vice-chairman of the North Shore Credit Union Board of Directors, Brewer has been able to develop the concept of the North North Vancouver teers when the events - are finished. The directorate needs peo- ple. to help set-up, work . the coat check, and clean up at the .
