Kies robbed

TWO 12-YEAR-OLD boys were robbed of their bus fare at
knife-point on Oct. 27 near 29th Street and Lonsdale
Avenue in North Vancouver.

Two teenagers, ages 13 and 15, were arrested and rob-
bery charges are pending in connection with the incident,
according to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.

Police say the victims were waiting for a bus at about 5
p.m. when a large group of youths approached them and =
asked for money.

The boys turned over their bus fare after the knife was {
produced, said police. The suspects will be charged under
the Young Offenders Act. Their names cannot be published.

THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP are crediting “numerous”
witnesses in identifying a suspect believed responsible for a
a three-vehicle hit and run on Oct. 29 on the Trans-Canada
Highway near the Mour.tain Highway exit.

Afternoon traffic was backed up causing an “extensive
traffic problem” for cars coming to the North Shore over
the Second Narrows Bridge as a result of the crash, accord-

ing to police.

No injuries were reported. Charges are pending against

| a suspect who had been driving a brown Oldsmobile.

Management Act following a Sept.
11,/1993 chlorinated water spill
from the Sarita pump house.

Avenue, is used to pump drinking
water up hill in the area.
| Chlorinated. water: killed 1,000
coho fry in a pen and wild stock in
‘the creek including 12 cutthroat

/ trout, according to a Fisheries
Canada official.

Lawyers disputed how much
chlorinated water went into the
creek from the NVD pipe. A Crown
lawyer contended the water flowed
overnight. A Crown witness esti-
mated the water released as being
50 to 100 times the usual flow of
the creck.

NVD claims, at the most, four
hours of water flow went through
their six inch (15 cm) pipe.

Sorochan said a “latent defect”
caused a valve to fail for the first

time in more than 25 years after a,

power outage.

He said NVD employees took
reasonable care, acted diligently
and responded diligently to the inci-
dent.

Said Sorochan,"You have to deal!
with, a creck eventually” in any
water system.

He said firefighters put out fires
with chlorinated water which would

_ go into MacKay Creek and theoret-

ically pollute it.
