After July 4, at least one of those admissions will change. At that time Sager, his brother Greg of Victoria, Whistler resident Simon Fawkes and five other men, including a San Franciscan who has been on a sailboat ‘‘once in his life,’ are going to take part in the gruelling Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race. _ “It’s a great way to spend a holiday. All of us share a love of challenge and adventure,’’ said Sager, whose job during the race will be navigator. The race covers 2,310 nautical miles and is expected to take 10 to 12 days. The crew will be sailing on Capt. Greg’s double-masted schooner, Passing Cloud. The all-wood vessel is more than 70 feet long, has a 5,000 square-foot sail and is an original William Roue design. Roue is best known for design- ing the Bluenose, the likeness of which can be found on Canadian dimes. So far, only 29 of approximate- ly 75 yachts have passed the strict entrance requirements for the race, which organizers describe as ERIN BELL captured her second straight B.C. high school heptathlon title at the provincial miulti-events - track and field champion- ships in Burnaby on May 22 and 23. The West Vancouver Secondary student amassed 4,591 points, * over 400 more than last year, by finishing first in five of the seven events and improving on her [991 performances in all of them. —She ran the 100m_ hurdles in 14.65, high jumped 1.68m, put the shot 10.10m, finished third in the 200m in 27.00, long jumped 5.31m, threw the javelin 31.26m, and completed the 800m in 12th spot in 2:48.39. - Points are awarded on the basis of time and distance achieved. Sentinel’s Joanne Armour finished fifth overall with 3,435 and West Van’s Amy Tutt seventh at 3,302. Eighteen girls competed. Handsworth teammates Brian Jeffery and Rob Ferguson ac- cumulated 5,646 and 5,481 points for fourth and sixth places respec- tively in the decathlon, which was contested by 15 boys. Sager, who is a member of the West Vancouver Yacht Club and an honorary member of the Eagle Harbour Yacht Club, said Passing Cloud will be sailed over 30 degrees in latitude and west by 25 degrees in longitude.
