By ELIZABETH COLLINGS News Reporter Since she started playing orga- nized ball four years ago, she has always played in divisions where the girls have been bigger and older, At six, she played in the Mini- Mite division for seven and eight year olds and now, at 10, she has broken into the Squirt Rep **B’’ division for 11 and {2 year olds. And what a debut it’s been. Playing for the Burnaby Oakecys at her first tournament in the division (and the youngest player) fast week, she threw a perfect’ game against Kamloops. “*There were no hits, no runs, no one on base, and obviously no walks,’ says Larry Kosterewa, Darcy's dad. She started throwing the bill around at the age of three, taking to the game naturally as did her two sisters, Kylee and Eria. At five, Darcy threw as well with her left arm as with her right. Kosterewa says he decided to make his prodigy right-armed because, although she had better accuracy with her left, her right arm was stronger. A left-hander himself, Kosterewa uses this to his advan- tage when he practices with her in the Kosterewa make-shift training centre (also known as the back yard). The yard has a covered pitching area so that Darcey can stay dry while her dad stands out in the rain to catch her pitches. Kosterewa has also set up netting through the trees so flying balls can’t shoot down the embankment. The vo work out for 70 minutes every day there isn’t a game, and she will be playing 67 games this season leading up to the provincials. During the off season, she practices three times a week.
