Tvear Editor: I agree from the bottom of my lieart with Mrs. Warrington and others who protest the felling of our native trees and the ever-in- creasing destruction of the North Shore’s rural beauty. Aloag with the tree felling goes the grubbing up of lovely gardens which were truly West Coast in their style and planting. In their place we have monotonous con- dominiums and homes far too big for their lots. The landscaping around these new places may be very fine and very expensive but it differs in no Donations appreciated Dear Editor: As chairman of the Lions Gate Auxiliary Thrift Shop, I would like to express, through your newspa- per, our great appreciation of the many pcople of our community who have helped our fund-raising efforts throughout the past year. This has beer a banner year for our group, and it could not have happened without the help of so many local people with their dona- tions of clothing and odds and ends. Margaret Sandy Lions Gate Auxiliary Thrift Shop RE MaILBox North Shore beauty is being destroyed way from what we see in Toronto or any other large city. Are we to go as far as much of California where too late its peopie bitterly regret the destruction of its former beauty? A brother of mine who was brought up in West Vancouver returned recently for a short visit. He happens to live in a part of New England where the character of the area is jealously preserved despite the blandishments of de- velopers. He was shocked at what he saw here and kept saying as we drove around, ““What have you done? What have you done?’”’ He and I are both glad to have seen the Pacific Coast in its former beauty. Where is it going to end? And don’t let anyone say I am arguing against anything which would give housing to ordinary people. They are the very ones who are being displaced by today’s greedy developers. J.M.
