Don Rutherford brings many years of experience in the field of social services with him to the job. He will be responsible for the overall}. operation of Neigi:bour- hood House, managing day-to-day activities as well as laoking at long-range planning. Rutherford succeeds Sabourin as director. “He left Neighbourhood House in excellent shape,’’ Rutherford said. Two major projects will occupy much of Rutherford’s attention during the next few months, star- ting with a renovalion program, which will focus on the day-care area on the lower floor, and the Doug grants from all levels of goverum- ent, Neighbourhood House offers fitness programs and provides space for a food bank, clothing exchange and day-care operation. Possessing a masters degree in social work from the University of British Columbia, Rutherford has been involved with child-care work, seniors’ recreation centres and street youth programs, His last four years were spent in private practice in adolescent assessment and treatment piann- ing. A North Shore resident since 1983, Rutherford is married and has one child.
